JOHANNESBURG Stock Exchange-listed Wescoal has been granted the mining right over the Intibane colliery in South Africa's Witbank coalfield.

Mining has taken place over a number of years to areas adjacent to Wescoal’s ground with the bituminous coal going to South African power utility Eskom, the inland market and to export.

Portion 16 of Wescoal’s land has an indicated resource 1.84 million tonnes and inferred resource of 240,000t with a combined strip ratio of 1.5:1.

Portion 12 has an inferred resource of 1.9Mt.

Wescoal expects to start mining Intibane in the latter half of 2012, with first coal due in early 2013.
