In a recent meeting with joint venture partner and Hancock Prospecting subsidiary Queensland Coal Investments, International approved a one-two rig short-term drilling campaign, a landholder engagement strategy and a JV manager.
A seismic and exploration drill program comprising 11 open (chip) holes and three
partially cored holes is planned for the company’s Bundaberg project 45km north of New Hope Energy’s proposed Colton mine.
The aim of the fieldwork is to support the extent and presence of coal-bearing measures in this region of the state’s Maryborough Basin.
Drilling is expected to begin in October.
Although International is largely a thermal coal explorer, the principal target at Bundaberg is Cretaceous hard coking coals.
Several exploration targets have been determined and a total exploration target (ranked highly prospective) has been established at 280-370 million tonnes of coal.
