Former Cat boss honored again

Barton was inducted into the Mining Hall of Fame last month. And he was honoured by SAE International yesterday for his efforts bringing Six Sigma into Caterpillar .

Barton deployed the data-driven approach to process improvement not long after assuming the top job at Caterpillar.

“The decision to deploy Six Sigma brought about a significant cultural shift in the organization and drove collaboration and teamwork throughout all of Caterpillar,” he said.

“It was critical to not only embed Six Sigma into multiple quality processes, we also made sure the organization understood that Six Sigma at Caterpillar was not just a focus on product quality but improving all business processes.”

Barton received the Subir Chowdhury Medal of Quality Leadership award at the SAE International COMVEC Industry Keynote and Awards Banquet in Illinois.
