MIM’s Abbot Point set a new monthly shipping record in July by moving 1.3 million tonnes, an increase of about 87.9% on the 702,000t shipped in July 1999.
In the calendar year to the end of July 2000, Abbot Point shipped 5.76Mt, which equates to 9.87Mt annualised.
Overseas demand is reportedly very strong at present for both coking and steam coal.
Abbot Point services the mines of Newlands and Collinsville.
Meanwhile, the Central Queensland Coal Associates’ (CQCA) Hay Point Coal Terminal shipped 2.31Mt in July, down 9% on July 1999 figures of 2.5Mt. Year to date, Hay Point has shipped about 16Mt.
Hay Point typically services mines including Goonyella, Peak Downs, Saraji, Norwich Park, Riverside, and South Walker Creek.
Major shareholders in CQCA are BHP, with 52.1%, and QCT Resources, with 32.37%.
