22 dead in Chinese explosion

An explosion in a north-eastern Chinese coal mine has killed 22 people and injured six others, according to Chinese press reports.

Staff Reporter

The blast occurred on Friday in the state run Yakeshi mine in the Inner Mongolia region.

AFX Asia reported the explosion trapped 43 miners, with all the survivors recovered in a three-hour rescue operation.

The cause of the blast is being investigated but reports suggest gas and poor ventilation may have been the trigger.
