The department issued a number of best practices underground coal mine should strictly adhere to ensure a safe underground environment.

Add additional rood supports where necessary.

Conduct a thorough visual examination of the roof, face, and ribs immediately before any work is started, and thereafter as conditions warrant.

Always be alert for changing rood conditions.

Conduct sound and vibration roof tests where appropriate.
