Russians bring in Australian coal

NOVOLIPETSK Metallurgical Combine (NLMK), became the first Russian steelmaker ever to import coking coal from outside the former Soviet Union, as the world’s coking coal crisis deepens.

NLMK has an 18% stake in Siberian coalminer Kuzbassugol which is finding it more profitable to export its coal production than sell within Russia.

The Vedomosti newspaper said NLMK imported 72,000 metric tons of coal through the port of Odessa at the start of the year.
