The Australian Mineral Statistics report released by the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics (ABARE) this week said Australian minerals and energy sector export earnings fell to A$52.2 billion in 2003-04.

The weaker performance and lower export prices were largely attributable to the strong Australian dollar.

Coking coal volumes exported lifted from 2002-03 levels of 107.79 million tonnes to 111.78Mt in 2003-04.

Steaming coal export volumes rose from 99.95Mt in 2002-03 to 106.76Mt in 2003-04.

Revised forecasts of minerals production, exports and prices for 2004-05 will be released by ABARE later this month.
