Show provides Indian platform

COMPANIES looking to enter the Indian mining industry have been handed a launch pad with the country’s latest mining show, Electra Mining India, to be held in New Delhi over March 22-24.

The show will target exhibitors in mining technology, machinery, equipment and suppliers.

Conference organisers said that after 34 years’ experience running Electra Mining Africa they were sure Electra Mining India would quickly become the platform for exporters around the globe to launch new business initiatives in India.

India is one of the world’s largest economies, growing by 8% a year.

Conference organisers said an investment of about $US20 billion was needed to increase coal production by more than 450 million tonnes in the next 15 years.

“It is expected that the coal mining industry will be thrown open to the private sector, providing opportunities for mining companies, equipment suppliers and consultants,” they said.

“The Indian Government is enthusiastically promoting foreign investment, particularly in the fields of mining and power generation, and has recently approved a proposal which would allow 100% foreign investment in the industry.”
