About 122 cars left the tracks as the train, which had left the Powder River Basin area of southeastern Montana and was en route to a South Dakota power plant, passed through the North Dakota town of Steele, according to an Associated Press report.

BNSF spokesperson Gus Melonas said that the tracks were reopened early Sunday morning after crews worked to clean up the scene. An investigation has commenced on the cause of the incident.
