Reports about the number of injured varied between 11 and 22 but it was believed 25 miners were working in the shaft about 210 metres underground at the time of the explosion.

Rescuers evacuated all 25 miners from the Abid Lolic coal mine after the explosion late on Wednesday, Reuters reported.

The cause of the accident is not known but local media reported the incident was a methane gas explosion.
