Michael Newman, a Rockhampton local, started his engineering-mechanical trades apprenticeship with Thiess 18 months ago.
When presenting Newman with his award and prize of $A1000 in travel vouchers, Thiess executive general manager of resources development Paul Cassano described him as a quiet achiever who was always willing to learn.
“Michael only needs to be shown a task once and absorbs it straight away," Cassano said.
“He has a perfect safety record onsite, can answer all the questions thrown at him about his work and is capable of completing any task assigned to him with little or no assistance."
The awards are in their second year and acknowledge the work done by Thiess apprentices. They also promote safety and recognise outstanding achievements and contributions to the business and assist in attracting and retaining new apprentices by recognising talent and dedication.
