India scouts for Aussie coal mines

INDIA'S National Mineral Development Corporation is on the hunt for coal mines in Australia.

According to a report by The Economic Times, NMDC production director VK Jain said the company was looking to acquire coal mines in Australia and iron ore mines in Canada and West Africa.

The company is also looking domestically at coal mines in West Bengal.

Acquisitions will come from NMDC's cash reserve of 6 billion rupees ($A167.8 million).
