Funded by the Department of Education and Training, the strategy aimed to ensure sustainability in the Bowen Basin area.
The Bowen Basin was selected as a high-priority region because of the impact of the current and future growth within the resources industry and the stress this has placed on the surrounding community.
Some outcomes of the strategy included a supervisor framework which provides tools for the recruitment, training and coaching of supervisors; publishing attraction and retention papers; and a free adult learners’ week DVD which highlights individual success stories of people from all walks of life who are establishing a rewarding career in the resources industry.
Industry partners involved in the strategy include BMA, Macarthur Coal, Anglo Cal, Rio Tinto, Peabody, Xstrata and various mining suppliers and contractors.
