Sponsored in part by the university along with several major operators and the Surface Mining Association for Research and Technology, the learning seminar set for September 23-24 was developed to be of interest to those involved with health and safety as well as training, planning, maintenance and operations.
“Managers and supervisors will be particularly interested in the innovative technology and strategies presented by international keynote speakers and case studies from similar mining operations,” organizers said.
In addition to a special keynote address by EDAN Safe Australia’s Dan Bongers, the seminar will include discussions on occupational health and safety consequences in a heavy equipment industry workforce; a 2010 safety analysis by the former chief inspector of mines for British Columbia; and a presentation on ergonomics, vibration and safety by Caterpillar’s Dan Roley.
Registration, which is limited due to space, includes meals and a copy of the event’s proceedings. More details on lodging and registration are available on the University of Alberta website.
