RENEWABLE energy became Germany's most important source of energy, with a share of 31.6% in 2015, even allowing for a slight increase in energy consumption due to cooler overall weather, according to the German government.

At the same time there was an overall fall in energy bills, by 1.4% for households and 2.1% for industrial customers not eligible for tax relief on their energy usage.
