Heating temporarily closes United

ELEVATED levels of hydrogen caused the temporary closure of Glencore's United bord and pillar operation in the Hunter Valley.

Staff Reporter

Pumping water into the affected goaf area from a surface borehole to flood part of the mine appears to have stopped the heating. The Department of Mineral Resources will need to clear the mine for the safe resumption of bord and pillar mining.

The mine is expected to resume production shortly and little equipment damage is expected.
