Aquila's Talwood on the block

AQUILA Resources is seeking to offload its Talwood coal project in central Queensland, which has the potential for a large underground mine targeting coking and thermal coal products from the Rangal Coal Measures.

A mining development lease has been granted over the eastern part of the tenements, which lie 35km north of Moranbah in the Bowen Basin.

There is further opportunity for a viable smaller scale open cut operation that could ultimately be used to access the underground resource.

Three studies have been undertaken presenting development options and there is future expansion potential with the broader tenement area hosting a total JORC Resource of 435 million tonnes.

There is the nearby Goonyella rail branch providing access to Abbot Point and Dalrymple Bay coal terminals.

There are potential synergistic and partnering options with the project, which is surrounded by existing coal mines operated by major miners such as BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance, Peabody Energy and Anglo American.

The tenement is adjacent to, immediately east of, and down dip from the BMA Goonyella Riverside and Peabody North Goonyella mining operations.

The resource is located on EPC985, and a Mining Development Lease MDL518 has been granted over the eastern part of EPC985 covering approximately 35sq.km.
