Rio and Alcoa give up bauxite for beauty

RIO Tinto and joint venture partner Alcoa have let go of their “economically challenging” bauxite mining and alumina refinery development plan in the north Kimberley region of Western Australia, choosing instead to help the state include the area into Australia’s largest national park.
