THE lifespan of AGL’s Liddell coal-fired power station in New South Wales may be extended by another five years to 2027 as Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull seeks to avert a looming lack of capacity in the national energy grid.

Liddell, which is Australia’s oldest coal fired power station at 50 years old, was slated for closure in 2022 by its owner AGL, which also indicated it would be withdrawing from coal fired power.
