Hail Creek makes Glencore Australia's largest coal producer

THE recent flurry of merger and acquisition activity in the Australian coal sector has caused a reordering of the nation’s top producers with Swiss-based giant Glencore trumping the coal production stakes and Chinese majority-owned Yancoal rocketing up the list.

There is more activity on the horizon with the imminent sale of Rio Tinto's Kestrel longwall mine in Queensland which could change the list further.
