High purity alumina in Collerina SX mini-rig run

THE maiden run of Collerina Cobalt’s solvent extraction mini-rig has gone without a hitch, with the aluminium loaded solution generated by the mini-rig successfully refined into high purity alumina, in three batches.

Collerina's SX mini-rig

The tests are part of process development work on Collerina's HPA First Process, a solvent extraction and refining technology to produce HPA from an industrial feedstock made up of a blend of available industrial products.

Collerina first started using the blended feedstock in its HPA First Process in July in place of a feedstock from its nickel-cobalt-scandium mine that was generated from the acid-leaching of laterite mineralisation.

For Collerina, the HPA First Process is a far simpler process flowsheet that does not require the development of a mining operation or associated acid plant, leach vessels, filtration, neutralisation circuits or tailings facilities.
