Stronger alloys on the cards

RESEARCHERS from Monash University, Australia’s science agency the CSIRO and China’s Chongqing University have found a way to make stronger lightweight magnesium alloys that can improve fuel efficiency, aerodynamics, speed and weight load in cars, planes and high-speed vehicles.

Co-segregated atoms in magnesium have multiple alloying elements

Lightweight magnesium could be a viable alternative to steel but for its tendency to deform during thermomechanical processes and applications.
