Immersive extends Hitachi relationship

HARD on the heels of the five-year renewal of its 16-year technical information agreement with Liebherr, advanced equipment simulator supplier Immersive Technologies has consolidated another long-term agreement, this time with Hitachi Construction Machinery.

Hitachi and Immersive have had a technical license and partnership agreement in place since 2007 to develop simulator equipment for Hitachi mining equipment and provide training to equipment operators.

The equipment includes haul trucks, excavators, shovels and autonomous panel add-ons for loader operators to manage autonomous haulage trucks.

Immersive's conversion kits turn take operators through a range of specific errors and events without the risk of equipment damage or potentially life-threatening emergency situations.

The interchangeable equipment modules fit onto base simulator platforms, which allows a range of different equipment to be simulated.

The two agreements have now been extended and merged into one exclusive partnership, with Immersive and Hitachi to work on development of simulator equipment to meet mining industry demands.

Immersive Technologies CEO David Anderson said its longstanding customer relationships shaped the requirements for best-in-class simulation.

He said mines using the simulators reported a 4% reduction in fuel consumption and a 39% reduction in haul-truck load times.

"We are proud of our relationship with Hitachi and the value that we collaboratively bring to mining companies," Anderson said.

"By providing the best training technology and working closely with mining customers, we continue to quantifiably improve the safety and profitability of mines."
