Of all things that can help to keep mining personnel safe while working around heavy machinery, proximity detection systems rank among the most effective.
Strata knows what a crucial role these systems play in everyday mining and is continually enhancing the HazardAvert system for both coal and hard rock mines, underground and surface.
The system promotes safer work practices, increases safety awareness and supports accident prevention.
TECHNOLOGY THAT DOES IT ALL.
HazardAvert is an electromagnetic system that can be used at surface and in underground operations and recognises both equipment and personnel regardless of size or type of machinery. For vehicles that move between the surface and underground locations, HazardAvert provides seamless coverage without the need for user interaction.
The system works with field generators on machinery and personnel-worn receivers. Generators also function as receivers, detecting the electromagnet fields of other vehicles. With vehicle-to-vehicle detection, all operators are warned of potential danger and with vehicle-to-person detection, both the vehicle operator and person-on-foot are warned simultaneously.
Strata's HazardAvert works to prevent accidents by detecting the potential of collision early and giving preventative warnings. These warnings are received by all parties simultaneously. The system features audible and visual alarms and can be interlocked into equipment controls to safely override operation and provide automatic movement prevention and emergency braking. With close range, slow speeds and traveling in reverse all proven to have high rates of accidents; HazardAvert has been designed to excel in these environments.
UNPARALLELED SAFETY TRAINING.
When HazardAvert has been interlocked into the equipment controls, it will automatically slow or stop the vehicle when a worker breaches the electromagnetic fields or stands in a position that is covered by the fields. Only once the individual moves will the system allow the equipment to restart. This safety measure forces the worker to recognise the parameters of safer working areas and will subsequently train them to remain in safer positions while operating.
HazardAvert records and logs all interaction data, including alarms triggered, the individual(s) triggering them, the duration of time spent in direct danger and the duration of downtime. This data can be retrieved both onsite or streamed to the surface and used in post-shift safety reports and training evaluations.
Using logged data, mines can produce reports to help measure productivity, such as analyzing equipment operating status and maintenance patterns. When needed, this detailed information can also be pulled by management for incident reporting.
GOOD FOR THE BOTTOM LINE.
When mines are working safely and efficiently, they will be more productive. Preventing accidents results in substantial savings, both with more uptime and activity and with less expenditures and property loss. Most importantly, however, with proximity detection, personnel safety is enhanced and highlighted.
