Albemarle plans Kemerton lithium plant

US CHEMICAL company Albemarle is seeking Australian Department of Environment and Energy approval to build a 20,000 tonne per annum lithium hydroxide plant at Kemerton, 17km northeast of Bunbury, Western Australia.

The plant will process up to 1Mtpa of spodumene ore from the Talison mine at Greenbushes.

If approved the Albemarle plant will be just down the road from its Talison spodumene mine partner Tianqi’s Kwinana 48,000tpa lithium hydroxide plant, which is under construction.
