QUEENSLAND energy minister Dr Anthony Lynham has defended the state’s coal-fired power capacity, putting him on side with opposition members of the LNP who have called for the federal government to subsidise new coal fired power stations.

Lynham's comments come after the Queensland government committed $53 million to a maintenance program at the Stanwell power station that will extend its life for another 15 years.
