BHP going off-grid

THE first sod has been turned at the Northern Goldfields solar project, one of the world’s biggest off-grid mining solar and battery energy storage systems being built by TransAlta to help power BHP Nickel West’s Mt Keith and Leinster operations in Western Australia.

The project includes a 27.4 megawatt solar farm at Mt Keith and a 10.7MW solar farm and 10.1MW battery at Leinster, which will connect to TransAlta's northern Goldfields remote power grid.
