IT IS to be business as usual for transport and logistics specialist Bis at GFG Alliance’s integrated mining and steelworks in Whyalla, South Australia following the signing of a multi-year materials handling and export facilities services contract.

Whyalla steelworks in SA

Bis has been the sole contractor at the Whyalla operations since 2019 with 230 workers providing steel services, scrap processing and handling, slag processing and handling and bulk materials handling.

The steelworks handles ore, liquid steel, limestone, pellets, coke, slag, by-products and finished product.

As part of the scope of the latest contract Bis will conduct operations at the steelworks including haulage and processing, product screening and metal recovery, scrap collection, processing and delivery and environmental services to support waste management.

Bis is also responsible for export facilities management.

This includes operation and maintenance of the inner harbour export facility and outer harbour export facility, rail discharge, product blending and sampling plus reclaiming for trans-shipping to cape vessels with wheel loaders.
