Facial injuries sustained by Ulan miner

A WORKER at the Ulan opencut mine in the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales was rushed to hospital yesterday morning after injuring himself at the site's wash plant.

ABC News reported the 53-year-old was whipped in the face by a pipe being flushed with water to remove sediment shortly after 4am local time.

The nature of the injuries sustained was not known but it is understood the man was able to speak after the accident.

The Ulan complex comprises an opencut and longwall operation and is owned by Xstrata Coal.
