Reef spurs political friction

THE future of Australia’s iconic Great Barrier Reef is becoming a political football with the state LNP party now supporting measures to protect the reef and the former head of the Australian government’s Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (GBRMPA) calling on the government to ban new coal mines to protect the reef from the dangers of climate change.
