Contractor fatality after incident at Rix's Creek

THE New South Wales Resources Regulator is investigating an incident that lead to the death of a 53-year-old haulage contractor at the Bloomfield Group’s Rix’s Creek mine in the Hunter Valley last Thursday.

The Bloomfield Group is also carrying out an internal investigation and the Resources Regulator will cooperate with the Coronial inquiry after the contractor died from head injuries at John Hunter Hospital after undergoing surgery.

The contractor is believed to have been struck by a truck in the incident on Tuesday before being stabilized and airlifted to John Hunter Hospital.

 

Bloomfield said it has offered support to the man’s family, and has also offered support to workers who may be affected by the tragedy.
