MORETON Resources has withdrawn its mining lease application for an open cut coal mine on farmland near Kingaroy, Queensland, an area made famous by former premier Joh Bjelkie-Petersen.

Farmers are relieved that there will be no mining near Kingaroy in Queensland.

Moreton Resources subsidiary MRV Tarong Basin estimated the mine would have a 25 to 30-year lifespan and contain an estimated 517.5 million tonnes of coal.
