Phelps calls on NSW to reverse Metropolitan extension approval

SYDNEY City Councillor and former federal member for Wentworth Dr Kerryn Phelps has moved a motion in the council calling on the New South Wales government to quash Peabody Energy’s Metropolitan mine’s extension, which she claims threatens to contaminate Sydney’s drinking water.

The council passed the motion even though the Metropolitan mine is not in its local government boundaries and the mine extension received all state environmental approvals.
