QUEENSLAND mines minister Dr Anthony Lynham has opened up a new fossicking area in the state’s central gold district at Flat Diggings, near the town of Clermont.

The path to Flat Diggings

Alluvial gold was discovered in creeks and gullies around Clermont back in 1861 and sparked a gold rush.

By 1956 the area had given up about 400,000 ounces.
