WOLLONGONG Coal’s proposed Russell Vale colliery underground expansion project in New South Wales involves a revised mine plan that aims to address potential subsidence-related impacts on groundwater by greatly reducing the risk of pillar failure.

Russell Vale is planned to extract approximately 3.7 million tonnes of run-of-mine coal.

The project, recently given the green light by the NSW Independent Planning Commission, is awaiting final federal government Environment Protection Biodiversity and Conservation Act approval.
