THE New South Wales Environment Protection Authority has fined Simec Mining subsidiary Tahmoor Coal $15,000 in September after the Bargo River was allegedly polluted with clay and turned an orange colour because of the nearby Tahmoor colliery.

EPA director regulatory operations Giselle Howard said the incident caused Tea Tree Hollow Creek and the Bargo River downstream to Mermaid's Pool to become turbid and discoloured.
