Excavator operators may be trapped in emergencies: QMI

A QUEENSLAND Mines Inspectors study has found that if an excavator operator is incapacitated and in need of help, rescuers may not be able to get on board in a timely fashion to offer assistance.

Testing was carried out at a number of Queensland surface coal mines.

The QMI study of excavator emergency access and egress systems also found an operator may not be able to exit the excavator in case of an emergency such as an onboard fire.
