Fatality at Coocaron opal field

THE New South Wales Resources Regulator is investigating the death of an opal miner at the Coocaron opal field north of Lightning Ridge on April 28.

The mineral claim holder had been out on his claim all day mining for opal when friends became concerned they could not contact him.

A search was launched, which tragically ended when the man was found deceased at the opal claim.

Major safety investigators attended the scene as part of the investigation.

The regulator said further information would be published when it was available.
