AUTONOMOUS mode operations have increased to an average of 34 trains per day as Rio Tinto ramps up its automated Pilbara train system AutoHaul.

Rio Tinto's AutoHaul is on track to be implemented by the end of the year.

Those 34 trains a day operating in autonomous mode equates to 290,000km, or 45% of daily kilometres completed in that mode.

Autohaul is expected to be fully implemented by the end of the year.
