Rio Tinto picks Caterpillar for Koodaideri

IT IS better known for its use of Komatsu autonomous trucks but Rio Tinto has decide to go with a predominantly Caterpillar autonomous fleet at its Koodaideri iron ore mine in Western Australia’s Pilbara.

Rio Tinto and Caterpillar will work on automating other parts of the mine's heavy equipment fleet, including dozers.

Rio Tinto has ordered 20 autonomous Caterpillar 793F haul trucks and four autonomous blast drills for its $2.6 billion mine 35km northwest of its Yandicoogina mine.
