Sailing into Port Hedland's Herb Elliott Port, the FMG Northern Spirit is the eighth and last ship of FMG's VLOC fleet, which is expected to provide about 12% of FMG's total shipping requirements.
The vessels were built at the Yangzijiang Xinfu and Guangzhou shipyards in China.
The first ship of the fleet, the FMG Nicola, first arrived in port in December 2016, and since then the fleet has embarked on 91 voyages from Port Hedland to China and shipped 23 million tonnes of ore.
Fortescue CEO Elizabeth Gaines said the fleet was a natural extension of FMG's supply chain and a critical element of its global scale operations and integrated infrastructure.
