Cobham expands

WITH demand growing, charter and fly-in, fly-out services provider Cohham has added its seventh Bombardier Q400 turboprop plane.

This is the 12th aircraft Cobham has added to its Regional Services fleet in the past two years.

Cobham regional services manager Claude Alviani said in 2022 Cobham had welcomed new clients, was flying new routes for existing clients and extending contracts with key clients in both South Australia and Western Australia.

"One of the things we love about the Q400 is that it can fly 30% faster and 40% farther than conventional turboprops, offering faster turnaround times and greater productivity," Alviani said.

"Many of our operations are flying into newly constructed, unsealed airstrips.

"Our growing fleet of Q400 aircraft is perfect for these regional sites and can carry 14 more passengers than any other turboprop."

Alviani said Cobham was committed to investing in modern, low carbon emission aircraft.

The air services provider is set to add another Embraer E190 jet and Q400 turboprop before the end of June and more are planned to arrive the latter half of 2022.

It is not the only FIFO provider to be upgrading its fleet.

Virgin Australia announced it was getting rid of its old FIFO Fockers and adding Boeing 737s.
