The Pennsylvania-based supplier said it is “proud to meet the challenges” of bringing its units to all mines, which are required to obtain them under a mandate from the US Mine Safety and Health Administration.

“To help your company to comply, CSE has two training devices – the SR-T and the SR-MP trainers,” it said in a statement Friday.

“CSE is proud to meet the challenges raised by the MINER Act and continues its market leadership by offering a new trainer dubbed the SR-MP breathing resistance and heat mouthpiece trainer, in addition to the SR-T trainer.”

Due to the regulation within the MINER Act outlining “expectations training” for all miners using SCSRs that offer a realistic experience, CSE launched development of the SR-MP and SR-T last year. The former will retail for $US24.35 and is made up of the mouthpiece, nose clip and trainer cartridge with the heat needed to give the sensation of a true emergency situation – much like the popular SR-100 would.

However, the supplier added: “For a closer approximation of what it is like to activate and wear the one-hour SR-100 worn on the belts of most miners, CSE offers the SR-T.

“The SR-T meets expectations training requirements and delivers a realistic simulation of what it is actually like for a miner to breathe through the SR-100 SCSR device in action.

“The SR-T is used throughout the industry and is considered one of the best introductions to the SCSR experience.”

While delivery dates for the units were not provided, CSE officials also reminded the industry that once the SCSRs are received the Act outlined a 60-day deadline to train all miners as part of their annual expectations training. Regulators define the training as allowing all workers to breathe through a “realistic SCSR training unit or equivalent device” so that they may experience the sensation of airflow resistance and heat they would feel in an emergency.
