Transfield managing director and chief executive Peter Goode said work will start shortly and a highly skilled team will be mobilised.
“This is a strategically significant opportunity for the company,” he said.
“It provides further support for our recently formed Projects and Engineering Group, which specialise in engineering, procurement and construction of major mechanical engineering projects.”
Last month Transfield secured work to construct the fibre network in the coastal communities of Minnamurra and Kiama Downs south of Wollongong as part of the initial rollout of the National Broadband Network.
But the full NBN program remains subject to change as the new federal government is yet to be determined after Saturday’s election.
