NLT Australia’s equipment delivers WiFi tracking of personnel and equipment, environmental monitoring and two-way messaging using its ultra-light cap lamp. A critical feature of the NLT products is they all run on the same network and utilise the fibre optics already being installed in the mine.
“Safety combined with productivity is a top priority to our company. This is the main reason we chose the NLT products to help us create a safe and efficient workplace for our people,” said mine engineering manager Peter Binnie.
“The NLT cap lamps have been around for years and their track record for quality and support coupled with innovation is very good. Our plan is to take the already purchased Exia approved lamp and upgrade with the WiFi tracking and two-way messaging system,” Binnie said.
Ease of rollout and a lower up-front commitment were a couple of added reasons for the decision. The network required for these products can be provided in a staged, as-required approach. This keeps capital expenditure down and will enable the mine to grow its commitment as the output of the mine ramps up.
The outcome of the project means AMCI will know where its people and equipment are, will have the ability to find and/or contact them and, most importantly, be able to receive communication back from miners underground.
NLT Australia had to meet a very short delivery turnaround on the lamps and chargers for this project but thanks to a new factory in Queensland would be able to do so with ease, said NLT managing director Tim Haight.
