On Monday afternoon, state Office of Miners’ Health, Safety and Training spokesperson Leslie Fitzwater told ILN the contract miner, whose name was not released, was working at the Marfork coal preparation plant on Sunday evening when a piece of a bulldozer he was working on fell on him.
Local media reports timed the accident at approximately 5.45pm.
Fitzwater said the worker was being treated on Monday at CAMC General Hospital and state mining officials were still investigating the cause of the incident.
An update of the victim’s condition was also not available on Monday afternoon.
An ILN request for more details from facility owner Alpha Natural Resources was not returned by press time.
