Ian Kilgour was appointed executive vice-president and COO effective June 20, Teck said.

"Ian brings a strong track record of consistently driving results, a focus on cost-management and global experience to the COO role," president and chief executive officer Don Lindsay said.

Kilgour has been Teck’s senior vice-president of coal since February 2011. Prior to this, he held senior positions at Compañia Minera Antamina, BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance and Minera Escondida.

He is a metallurgical engineer and holds a Master of Science degree from the Royal School of Mines in London and a Bachelor of Applied Science degree from the University of Melbourne.

Kilgour will be responsible for all Teck mining operations and joint ventures in its steel-making, coal, copper and zinc business units.

Teck also announced Dale Andres would take over as head of its copper division, following the retirement of Roger Higgins.
