Australian coking coal production of 4.5Mt was 25% ahead of the comparable period, which was affected by geological issues at the Oaky Creek longwall mine in Queensland.

The restart of the Integra mine in NSW contributed 400,000t.

Australian thermal and semi-soft coal production of 45.5Mt was in line with the comparable period, as expected increases from the higher equity ownership of the Newlands and Collinsville mines, productivity increases in the first half of 2017 and the ramp-up of Rolleston, were offset by planned mine closures and the impact of industrial action in New South Wales.

South African thermal coal production of 21.6Mt was in line with the comparable period as stronger operating performances at Tweefontein and Goedgefonden were offset by planned smaller mine closures.
