The plant at the Gebeng Industrial Estate on Malaysia's east coast has been shuttered since the Malaysian government first implemented the Movement Control Order to contain the spread of COVID-19, on March 18.

Initially meant to stay in place for two weeks, the MCO has been further extended to May 12.

In a statement Lynas told the Australian Securities Exchange the plant produced products "essential to the manufacturing supply chains for critical industries including automotive, medical devices including ventilators, oil refining and machinery equipment".

Lynas said the plant's strict health and hygiene protocols met and exceeded the Ministry of Health's requirements for approval.
